Every other year, Farm Credit associations across the nation gather in Washington D.C. to connect and to advocate with Congress on the importance of supporting American agriculture. This year, the Farm Credit Fly-In started on a strong note with remarks and updates from Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member G.T. Thompson (R-PA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency Administrator Zach Ducheneaux.

Farm Credit’s main message focused on educating members of Congress about our mission to support rural communities and agriculture, especially in challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. Fly-In participants also highlighted how Farm Credit finances climate-smart agricultural practices.

In attendance on behalf of Oklahoma AgCredit was: Patrick Zeka, President / CEO; Michelle Clogston, Board Secretary; Dan Childs, Director; Rodney Holcomb, Director; Shand Rasmusson, Director; Brad Scott, Director;  Kent Livesay, co-owner of Livesay Orchards; Kyle and Paulina Livesay, Livesay Orchards; and Nathan and Kathryn Livesay.

Oklahoma AgCredit attendees were able to visit all Oklahoma Representatives and Senators during the two days allotted for conversations with Congress.

The two-day event capped off with a Marketplace Reception at the District Pier on the Wharf. Over 19,200 Farm Credit customer-produced products from across the nation were on display and 500 stories were able to be heard, prefacing that agriculture is the backbone of America.
